49-year-old Ali still remembers the moment she became Capeside High’s most popular cheerleader, Kristy Livingstone. Before that, she was a fan of the show itself!
She recently revealed, “I was a fan of the show when I went to work on it. I was so excited. But I was totally new, totally fresh. It was my first job.”
‘Varsity Blues’ and That Famous Cream Bikini
After Dawson’s Creek, Ali got another big break – the 1999 hit film ‘Varsity Blues.’ Her co-star in this film was James Van Der Beek, also a star of Dawson’s Creek.
People still remember the scene in the film where Ali’s character, Darcy, seduces James while wearing a whipped cream bikini!
Ali admits she was still learning about the industry. She said, “I spent my twenties learning from different acting coaches.
I kept adding to my toolbox by learning something from everything. That was a sweet time, the start of my career.”

For Ali, ‘Varsity Blues’ wasn’t just a feel-good movie. She wanted to show the vulnerability of her character, Darcy. Ali says, “Darcy was a girl who was finding her own path.
You see her deeply embarrassed and even crying, feeling ashamed of her choices. I think those were simpler times.”
