Imelda Staunton and Jim Carter’s daughter Bessie Carter on the importance of humor in relationships

The darling of a film family
Ever wondered what life would be like with famous actor parents?
Bessie Carter, daughter of Imelda Staunton and Jim Carter, has lifted the veil a little!
In a conversation with PEOPLE, the 31-year-old actress shared something close to her heart that will surprise everyone.
What is life without laughter?
“If you have a great sense of humor, then everything is great!” Bessie said, smiling.
According to her, the most important thing in dating is laughter and fun!
And this is not only important for her, but also for her parents.
“Laughter is the life of every relationship for me, just make a good joke and everything is fine!”
Beyond stardom, just a family
How strange is it? Despite being the daughter of such big stars, Bessie says that this is no big deal for her friends.
“My friends are totally over it,” she says, laughing. “For them, they’re just my mom and dad, not celebrities. And that feels really good.”
A unique mother-daughter partnership
These days, Bessie is sharing the stage with her mother, Imelda, in “Mrs. Warren’s Profession.”
“We always dreamed of working together,” she says. According to her, there is a strange ease in working with one’s mother.
“When I’m on stage, I think – hey, this is mom! It gives a different kind of confidence.”
Old stories, new light
Presenting this play written in the 1800s in a new way, Bessie says, “It feels so fresh, as if it were written today!
We are looking at it through a modern lens, but its things are still as true today.”
Acting is in the blood
Bessie’s parents, who married 42 years ago, have worked together in “Downton Abbey”.
It seems working with family is in their DNA! Following in the footsteps of 69-year-old Imelda and 76-year-old Jim, Bessie is making her own way.
New flights, new directions
Bessie, who gained recognition from “Bridgerton”, is now also appearing in Britbox’s new show “Outrageous”.
While taking her career to new heights, she is carrying forward the legacy of the artist family.
Bessie believes that the biggest advantage of growing up in an artist family is that her parents understand how tiring acting can be.
“They know that sometimes after shooting, you don’t even dare to talk!”
Laughter, understanding and love – perhaps this is the real secret of the Carter-Staunton family’s happiness!
Is humor so important in your relationships, too?
