Boots New Series

Netflix’s new dramedy series, “Boots,” is making waves these days, and for lead actor Miles Heizer, the experience has been truly life-changing.

Based on Greg Cope White’s memoir, Miles plays closeted teenager Cameron Cope, who, fresh out of high school, enlists in the US Marine Corps with his straight best friend, Ray McAffey (Liam Oh).

A New Beginning of Connections to “Manhood”

Miles Heizer recently revealed a significant insight in an interview with PEOPLE.

He said that growing up, he never connected much to the concept of “manhood.”

He was raised by women, his friends were mostly girls, and he knew from a very young age that he was gay.

Because of this, he always shied away from befriending straight boys, fearing he might not be accepted.

Filming ‘Boots’ placed him with actors from diverse backgrounds.

It was an “incredible” experience for Miles, as he formed strong bonds with people he might never have initiated friendships with.

This experience truly opened his eyes.

‘Phantom Boot Camp’ and the Long Wait

Playing Marine recruits on the show, the cast truly bonded like they went through boot camp.

Miles described it as “phantom boot camp.” Due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes, filming spanned two years.

During this time, everyone spent so much time together that they became a team.

The purpose of boot camp is to erase individual identities and create a group mentality, and Miles says that, strangely, he felt a similar bond.

Their shooting schedule was also very “unusual”—every actor was present on set for almost every scene, so no one had a day off.

Despite being “miserable” with each other in the intense New Orleans heat, everyone was having the “best time” of their lives.

This difficult and overwhelming experience bonded them forever.

Why is this series so unique?

Speaking about the show, Miles Heizer finally said that what he liked most about “Boots” is that it’s unlike any other military film or show.

It’s completely different from people’s expectations.

While this series is full of love and heart, and is uplifting in a way, it’s also very funny and witty.

It’s truly uncommon to find such a fresh and unique perspective on a military subject.

‘Boots’ is now streaming on Netflix, and it blends a unique story with Miles Heizer’s personal journey. Have you started watching it?
