New Face, New Story in Boston Blue

If you’re a longtime Blue Bloods fan, you’ll be a little surprised to see Boston Blue (its new spinoff).

Danny Reagan’s (Donnie Wahlberg) son, Sean, is no longer the same person you watched grow up with over the past 14 years.

Andrew Terraciano, who played Sean from 2010 to 2024, is no longer a part of the show. His place has now been taken by new actor Mika Amonsen. Why was such a veteran and beloved actor replaced? Let’s find out.

Why was this drastic change made?

This decision wasn’t easy for the show’s makers, but they believe it was necessary. Showrunner Brandon Margolis explained that the decision was made solely for “creative reasons.”

The story has now changed. In this spinoff, Sean is no longer just a child, but a patrolman for the Boston Police Department.

Now Danny and Sean are not just father and son, but also colleagues. The producers felt that this “new chapter” and the new father-son dynamic needed a “new energy.”

So they cast Mika to portray this mature version of the character from a new perspective.

Fans’ Anger and Love

As soon as this change appeared on screen, fans on social media received mixed reactions. Some were quite upset.

Many wrote on Instagram that they were missing the “real scene” and that the unnecessary change of actor had ruined the fun of the show.

But, on the other hand, some fans are praising Mika Amonsen’s acting.

They love Danny seeing his son as a police officer and the new chemistry between them.

What about the new ‘Sean’?

Mika Amonsen knows that replacing Andrew is a huge challenge. He admitted that he initially faced some negativity, but he’s trying to stay positive.

For the role, he binge-watched old Blue Bloods episodes to capture Sean’s old mannerisms and style, but in his own way.

Andrew’s Emotional Farewell

Although Andrew Terracciano didn’t comment critically on the recast, he did write an emotional note about the show’s ending.

He said that after 15 years, the cast is more than family to him and, saying goodbye to his character, wrote, “Sean Reagan, I let you go.”
