This 65-year-old former anchor of “Inside Edition” has made history in the world of television.
She holds the title of TV’s longest-serving female anchor, and for this remarkable journey, she was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award on October 17th.
When she said “thank you” to her family
Upon taking the stage, Deborah first joked with the crowd, but then became emotional while thanking her family.
She especially thanked her husband of 37 years, Karl Wellner, and her three children—Kyle, Niki, and Mikaela.
She said, “You four have been with me every step of the way, every turn.” This is what a true support system is!
That scary day in my career!
Deborah Norville recounted an incident in her speech that shocked everyone.
She explained that her illustrious career could have ended “before it even began.”
It was in 1978, when she was a local reporter.
Before leaving for her first assignment, a firehouse picnic, her cameraman smoked marijuana!
Norville was terrified that if she got caught, “Daddy would kill me.”
How ‘Debby’ became ‘Deborah’
Well, luckily, no one stopped her, the fire chief didn’t notice, and she wasn’t arrested.
That night, her father saw her on TV. Norville signed off, “Debby Norville.”
She jokingly said, “I decided then that if I wanted to stay in this job, I had to get rid of the name ‘Debbie.'”
Goodbye to ‘Inside Edition’
As you know, Norville said goodbye to ‘Inside Edition’ after 30 years in May of this year.
She described the award as an “extraordinary capstone” of her career.
She also described leaving the show as the “right move” for her family and marriage.

So what is she doing now? Norville is now hosting a new game show called ‘The Perfect Line.’
She recently revealed that she is enjoying her life very much.
She says, “It’s so relaxing not to have that stress… I wonder why I didn’t do this sooner!”
