Edie Baskin carved out a unique identity for herself with 25 years of SNL photos; see her in a new book.

Edie Baskin moments
Edie Baskin, the dynamic photo wizard behind Saturday Night Live since its inception in the 1970s, relives the joyous moments she captured on camera in her new book, Live From My Studio: The Art of Edie Baskin.
Early Life
Edie’s childhood was filled with creativity. Her father was a sculptor, her mother a painter, and when she was thirteen, her father built her a darkroom.
Her photos, which appeared in her school yearbook, are still memorable.
Meeting Lorne Michaels
After doing small modeling jobs in New York, Edie returned to photography.
She ran into Lorne Michaels at a poker night in California.
Loren loved her black-and-white, hand-colored photographs.
“Do you have a job here?” Eddie asked hesitantly, and the next day she got a call, “Come to NBC.”
In the early days of SNL
The early SNL had no title cards, just a list of names.
Loren gave Eddie complete freedom, and he brought in photos of New York nights, which appeared in the title sequence.
First, he created a bumper featuring Paul Simon, then gradually added photos of the entire cast and musical guests to the titles.
A 25-Year Journey
From 1975 to 1999, Eddie handled the show’s lens.
“The bond with the cast was deep, from Dana Carvey and Jon Lovitz to Gilda Radner,” she says.
Sometimes, if guests couldn’t take a photo, she would take a publicity photo and hand-color it.
Favorite Artist
Eddie’s heart beats for Steve Martin, who appeared several times in the early stages.
John Malkovich, Alec Baldwin, and his childhood dance class partner, Terri Garr, also hold special places in his memories.
The publication of a new book, “Live From My Studio,” hits bookshelves on October 7th.
It features rare, hand-colored portraits of Eddie, backstage stories, and a journey through 25 years of SNL.
Conclusion
Eddie Baskin didn’t just take pictures; he gave SNL its identity.
His lens reveals the soul of the show’s pranksters and musicians.
