Yannick Trousdale’s iconic character resonated with fans around the world.

Why We Still Love Gilmore Girls
In a world where everyone seems glued to their phones and a little isolated, the unique, quirky town of Stars Hollow still feels like a cozy home for millions of fans.
Yanic Truesdale, the actor famous for Michel Gerard’s perfect eye-rolls and super sharp sarcasm, recently chatted about his experience on the beloved show and why it still matters today.
Creating Michel’s Signature Voice
When he was first developing the character of Michel, Yannick Trousdale really wanted him to be fully, authentically Parisian, accent and all.
He told podcast host Chloe Vine, “The accent you hear is actually a toned-down version, because the one I originally wanted was even more Parisian.”
He explained that the show’s creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino, found his original style a little too hard to understand at first.
“She would always say, ‘Oh, honey, I don’t understand you,'” Yannick Trousdale recalled with a laugh.
But that initial push-and-pull, he said, is what created the Michel we know: “Completely arrogant, but always understandable.”
A Show That Truly Lasts
For Yannick Trousdale, being part of Gilmore Girls is the highlight of his career—it’s the role people still recognize him for decades later.
“I think every actor dreams of having at least one character, a role, a movie, a series, a play that they’re recognized for and that people remember decades later.”
But the show’s impact goes way deeper than just entertainment. It’s become a comfort for many fans going through tough times.
“Thousands of people have said to me, ‘When I went through this,’ or ‘I had cancer,’ or ‘I lost my mom’… ‘and your show helped me,'” he shared.
The Search for Community
Perhaps Truesdale’s best point is why a whole new generation continues to discover Gilmore Girls.
He feels we’ve “lost a sense of community,” noting how everyone is always looking at their phone instead of connecting with those around them.
He points out that “The show is very much about community and a sense of community and helping each other… I think people are lacking that, and maybe they’re yearning for it.”
It’s probably this desire for real connection that keeps bringing fans back to Stars Hollow—not just for comfort, but for that rare feeling of truly belonging.
As the host perfectly summed it up, the show “provides a sense of security and belonging – something that feels especially necessary right now.”
