Anthony Mackie claims – every artist who works with him gets an award nomination. Is it true or a joke?

Sudden nomination
Anthony Mackie was shocked to find out he was nominated for an Emmy.
Speaking to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, he joked, “I was at work… and everybody was congratulating me.
I thought, ‘Oh, what white guy got nominated?'” He joked that it’s usually the artists he works with who get nominated, not him!
Anthony is the “jelly of the donut”
Anthony calls himself the “jelly of the donut” – that hidden flavor that makes everything better. He claimed that artists who work with him are bound to get award nominations. “If you want to get nominated, I’m the guy,” he joked.
Stars’ fortunes shined
The truth is that many actors who worked with Anthony have had great success:
- Ryan Gosling received his first Oscar nomination after working with Anthony in “Half Nelson” (2006)
- Jeremy Renner received his first Oscar nomination after acting with him in “The Hurt Locker” (2008)
- Bryan Cranston received an Emmy nomination after working with him in “All the Way” (2016)
Facing tough competition
This time Anthony has been nominated in the Outstanding Guest Actor category for his work in the Apple TV+ series “The Studio”.
His competitors include Jon Bernthal, Bryan Cranston, Dave Franco and two legendary directors – Ron Howard and Martin Scorsese.

Humble attitude
Despite being nominated with big names, Anthony’s attitude is very humble.
He said, “I’m very honored and proud to be nominated.
But the reality is I’m happy to be in second place because there’s Ron Howard and Scorsese.
One of them will win, but they’ll take votes from each other, so I’ll be in second place.”
The real meaning of winning
For Anthony, being nominated alongside such legends is more important than winning the award.
He joked, “Just being nominated alongside Scorsese and Ron Howard is a win.
Because one of them will have to say, ‘Oh, I lost to Anthony Mackie’!”
It will be interesting to see if Anthony’s “lucky charm” works for him at the Emmy Awards on September 14!
