Joan Rivers: The comedian who even sold X-rays!

Joan Rivers, the late comedian whose wit and outspoken style were unmatched, passed away in 2014 at the age of 81, but her memory lives on.

Recently, over 300 unique items from her personal and professional life were auctioned, attracting everyone’s attention.

The auction, held in Beverly Hills, was organized by Julien’s Auctions.

Joan’s daughter, Melissa Rivers, told People that after 11 years, she felt it was the right emotional time to “let go.”

When even X-rays were sold!

The items that attracted the most attention at the auction were those related to her personal life—especially those related to her beloved Yorkshire Terrier, Spike.

Would you believe it? Two chest X-rays of her dog Spike were also auctioned, selling for $576 (approximately ₹48,000)!

These X-rays were from 1993 and came with Spike’s veterinary envelope.

Another sentimental lot related to Spike sold for $1,920 (approximately ₹1.6 lakh), including a photo of Spike wearing a crown, his collar, ID tag, and a credit card in his name.

In fact, Joan Rivers credited Spike with saving her life.

After her husband died in 1987, when she was contemplating suicide, Spike jumped into her lap and sat on her gun.

Rivers told The Daily Beast in 2014, “I thought, ‘No one will take care of him.'”

Wigs, Voodoo, and Royal Friendship

Not just dog accessories, Rivers’ stage wigs also fetched good prices.

Two shag wigs used in her one-woman show were auctioned for $5,760 and $2,880. In addition, two voodoo dolls sold for $448.

Rivers also had a special affection for the British Royal Family, even though she often poked fun at them (especially Sarah Ferguson).

A bone china mug commemorating the 1986 wedding of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson sold for $384.

Interestingly, Rivers and King Charles (then Prince Charles) became friends in 2003.

Rivers even attended her wedding in 2005. Upon Rivers’ death, King Charles called her “utterly irreplaceable.”

These auctioned treasures aren’t just items; they’re stories from the life of a comedian who touched the world with his humor and his love.
