John Slattery Recalls Mad Men Days With Colin Hanks

John Slattery and Colin Hanks’ new film, Nuremberg, will showcase their explosive acting chemistry.

Old Memories of Mad Men

John Slattery, now 63, recently reminisced about his old ‘Mad Men‘ days. Speaking to PEOPLE magazine, he recounted how he met his co-star, Colin Hanks, back in the day.

Slattery played Roger Sterling for seven seasons on the show, while Colin Hanks only appeared in three episodes as Father Gill in season 2.

Interestingly, they never met face-to-face in the show’s plot, but they did meet on set.

Slattery says, “We met there for a while and talked,” a memory that remains a sweet memory for him today.

New Beginning at Nuremberg

Now, fate has brought these two actors back together in the 2025 drama film “Nuremberg.”

In the film, Slattery plays U.S. Colonel Andrus, who summons Hanks’ character, psychologist Gustave Gilbert, for an important assignment.

The film is based on the book “The Nazi and the Psychiatrist,” and its story revolves around the mental analysis of Hermann Göring and Nazi officials.

Slattery explained that this time he had a lot of opportunities to work and spend time with Hanks, and he considers him a “bad guy.”

Tale from Behind the Set

The subject matter of the film was quite serious and intense, but the atmosphere after shooting was completely different.

Slattery shared that the entire cast stayed in the same hotel, which created a deep bond between them.

He said, “The atmosphere was intense during the day, but in the evenings we all just relaxed.”

Regarding Michael Shannon, who often plays serious roles, Slattery said he was very funny in real life.

He also had a long-standing relationship with Rami Malek, which made working on set even easier.

A Different Experience

Slattery is very excited about this film because films like this are rarely made these days.

Director James Vanderbilt has made this project on a grand scale, which makes it special.

Slattery was captivated by the film’s script and its stellar cast at first sight. He says that when the material is good, the work is twice as enjoyable.

He said, “We all felt this story needed to be told and it was the right decision to invest time in it.”
