The episode captured the moment when Zac asked Lydia’s father, Barry for permission to marry his daughter after just three months of dating – and his plan shocked everyone.
“Are you crazy?” – Barry’s first reaction
When Zac revealed they were planning to propose in just two weeks and marry three months later, Barry’s immediate reaction was understandable: “Are you crazy?” to which Zac light-heartedly admitted, “Maybe a little bit.”
This sudden timeframe completely shocked the head of the family, prompting him to dig deeper into his reasons.
The Germany mission trip factor
The real motivation behind their fast-moving relationship? A planned mission trip to Germany.
“Lydia has plans to go to Germany,” Zac explained to Barry.
“I wanted to go too, and I talked to her about it. She was like, ‘Yeah, you’re going.'”

“I was in Colorado, went to this church, got invited to Young Adults, and then we just happened to be next to each other,” Lydia recalled.
Zac added, “And then I asked you out on a date.
We went hiking, and then went hiking again.” He laughed, “You were up at 13,000 feet for about seven hours, and that’s how our journey began.”
Faith-focused union
The couple eventually married in February on the Plath family farm in Georgia, where they shared their first kiss.
They told PEOPLE that they wanted their wedding to “exemplify Jesus’ love for the church,” citing Ephesians 5:25 Bible verse as their guiding principle.
“We envisioned celebrating our union together with our closest communities,” Zac shared.
“Neither of us wanted to get bogged down in details we wouldn’t remember in years to come.
We kept our focus on our purpose: our union before God, friends, and family.”
