Mark Ruffalo learned the secret of empathy

Preparation from a real agent

Before playing the role of FBI agent Tom Brandis in HBO’s new mini-series Task, Mark Ruffalo spent time with real FBI employee Scott Duffey. T

The purpose behind getting direct experience was not just to work by watching shots, but to understand the inner world of agents.

After meeting so closely, Ruffalo learned that a great agent should have humanity along with technology.

Empathy: The biggest strength

Ruffalo says, “I learned from a real agent that empathy is the real superpower.”

He especially kept this in mind during the shoot to make Tom Brandis’ emotions authentic.

It is not easy to understand fear, the suffering of victims and the psychology of criminals, but empathy brings out new angles.

Delicious memories in Philadelphia

Task is set in the working-class suburbs of Philadelphia, so Ruffalo savored the city’s famous Philly cheesesteak.

“I gained weight from eating so many sandwiches,” he laughs.

These details seem small, but they make a big difference in grounding the character.

Character profile of Tom Brandis

In Task, Tom Brandis leads a task force trying to stop a string of violent robberies that take place in an ordinary family.

Ruffalo says that without empathy, the analysis of such case studies is incomplete.

“If you don’t think from the perspective of both the victim and the criminal, the case doesn’t get solved,” he adds.

Great cast

Task’s cast also includes Tom Pelphrey, Emilia Jones, Thuso Mbedu, Jamie McShane, Fabien Frankel and Martha Plimpton.

Mare of Easttown creator Brad Ingelsby is the executive producer of the project, which adds to the credibility of the story.

Each actor has put in a lot of effort to deepen their character’s backstory.

Everything to watch

Task’s seven-episode drama airs every Sunday at 9 pm on HBO and also streams on HBO Max.

The story keeps fans hooked by balancing crime, thrills and emotional pace.

If you like realistic police dramas, then this series is a must-watch on your watchlist.
