“I Was a Dog”: Robert Jr.’ Emotional Confession
Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Mary Cosby has shared a very personal difficult time.
Her son, Robert Jr., spoke with her about his mental health struggles and drug addiction.
Robert told his mother that he felt like a “dag” or “stain” in the world.
Mary’s heart was broken when she heard this, but she’s glad she stepped forward and shared it.
Mother’s Heart: Breaking and Reuniting
For Mary, it was an emotional rollercoaster. “When he told me and admitted it, it really touched my heart,” Mary says. “It breaks you, but it also makes you love him even more.”
At first, Mary would blame herself. She would think, “Maybe if I had done something different…” But now her perspective has changed.
She has come to understand that whatever happened, happened. Now all she can do is support her son and encourage him.
Freedom from Guilt: “It’s on him, not me”
Mary has finally decided to put her guilt behind her. She says that as a mother, there’s only so much she can do.
“My child should control himself; it’s on him, not me. He should take responsibility for his actions and he should want to stop.”
Mary hopes that by sharing her story, she will be able to help others.
She says that today’s younger generation is experiencing a lot of anxiety, and people are looking for some kind of “escape.”
RHOSLC: Mary’s Own ‘Escape’
Strange as it may be, shooting Real Housewives has become a kind of escape for Mary.
Despite her real-life problems, going on set allows her to briefly escape into another world, where she can be happy.
She doesn’t get involved in the petty dramas of the group. “I have bigger problems in my life,” she says.
The rest of the show will be worth watching, and Mary says this is the best season of RHOSLC yet – except for one cast member, Brittany Bateman, with whom she doesn’t have a good equation.
Mary’s story is that of a mother who made her son’s battle her own, but eventually learned to separate herself from it.
