Ryan Murphy explained how plastic surgery is no longer something to hide, but a new status symbol.

New Thoughts in Changing Times
Ryan Murphy, known for his diverse shows, recently appeared at New York Comic Con. There, he recalled his former hit show, “Nip/Tuck,” and reflected on how much the world had changed over the years.
He says that when he created the show on plastic surgery in the early 2000s, the topic was considered taboo. People used to get surgery but pretended it didn’t happen in public.
But today, the story has completely changed. According to Murphy, people no longer hide their surgery but flaunt it.
New Status Symbol
Murphy said during the panel that people’s attitudes toward Semaglutides (used for weight loss and diabetes) and plastic surgery are changing.
Instead of passing judgment, people now view it as a “status symbol.” It’s a strange evolution where people are openly talking about their body changes.
They are amazed at how people used to fear being judged for surgery, but now the same thing has become a part of fashion and trend.
Nip/Tuck’s Success
Remember that Nip/Tuck debuted on FX in 2003 and was a hit until 2010. The show starred Dylan Walsh and Julian McMahon.
The series was famous for its graphic scenes and the complicated personal lives of the doctors.
The show not only captured people’s attention but also won major awards like the Emmy and Golden Globe.
Ryan Murphy admits that discussing such topics was risky at the time, but it’s become the norm today.
The Beauty: A Dangerous Story
Now, Ryan Murphy is about to make a splash with his upcoming show, The Beauty, which will be released in 2026.
The show’s story is unique and terrifying. It’s about a sexually transmitted virus that makes people beautiful, but ultimately results in death.
Murphy explained that it will feature a mix of body horror, action sequences, and a love story. The show is based on Jeremy Haun’s comic book, and audiences will also get to see a new villain.
