In Taylor Sheridan’s hit series Landman, Sam Elliott plays T.L., the father of Billy Bob Thornton’s character, Tommy.

The story of a complex relationship between the two is slowly unfolding.

A Painful Story of Broken Relationships

“I’m playing a broken man,” Sam explains. Tommy’s childhood was filled with hardship.

His mother was addicted to drugs, and when 14-year-old Tommy saved her life, she broke his nose!

After this, Tommy left home and never returned. Meanwhile, T.L. spent months working away from home to escape his wife, further deepening the distance between father and son.

A Journey of Repairing Relationships

“This season, we’ll see how T.L., and later, both of us, try to mend this broken relationship,” says Elliott.

This journey of healing decades-old wounds is full of emotions, but also fun.

The long-standing friendship between the two actors has made working on set even more memorable.

A Star-Long Connection

“Working with Billy is a gift,” says 81-year-old Elliott. “I’ve loved him from afar for so long, and now I’m able to love him up close.

These moments are incredibly special.” Although returning to set after the success of the first season was a bit stressful, Thornton’s long-standing friendship made everything easier.

A Fun Shooting Atmosphere

Thornton agrees with Elliott. “This is one of those shows where I never feel like avoiding work. We all absolutely love working on it,” he says.

“With Taylor’s magical words and storytelling, I feel lucky every day. I never think, ‘I wish I could run away from here.’ This place is simply amazing.”

New episodes of Landman can be seen every Sunday on Paramount+.
