Lord Seadown kills his brother Richard in The Buccaneers, shocking both the audience and the cast

Brother’s betrayal stuns viewers
The sixth episode of Season 2 of “The Buccaneers” delivered a shock no one expected.
What began as a rescue mission ended with Lord Richard Marable’s death at the hands of his own brother, Lord Seadown—a moment that would change everything going forward.
Jinny’s nightmare grows
Jinny St. George’s abusive marriage reached terrifying new heights when Seadown had her committed to a mental institution.
After publishing her story to gain public support, her confrontation with Seadown failed miserably.
He manipulated the situation, painting Jinny as unstable and dangerous, giving him complete control over Jinny and their child.
Failed rescue mission
Tensions exploded when Richard and Honoria Marable attempted to free their sister-in-law from captivity.
What began as a standoff with Seadown turning the gun on himself took a shocking turn when he instead shot his brother Richard.
“It broke our hearts”
“We didn’t see it coming,” showrunner Katherine Jakeways revealed.
“As much as it broke our hearts, the fact that it broke our hearts was the reason it felt so right.”
The creative team explored various death scenarios, but ultimately chose Richard because his loss would have the most profound impact on the story.
The actor’s surprising reaction
Despite playing the victim, Josh Dylan (Richard) embraced the twist: “I was excited.
It was so fun to be a part of, it’s a unique moment.”
The actor noted the irony that his character and Conchita had finally reached a good place in their relationship, making the loss even more devastating.

Inside Seadown’s breaking point
Barney Fishwick, who plays Seadown, was equally shocked by his character’s actions.
“I thought he was too cowardly to pull the trigger,” he admitted.
The moment of brotherly connection—Richard hugging Seadown—paradoxically pushed him to the breaking point.
“It’s simultaneously the thing he’s always wanted—a hug from his big brother—and he absolutely hates the weakness he’s allowed himself to show.”
Filming the intense confrontation
The physical altercation between the brothers required full commitment from both actors.
“Barney and I had a silent agreement that ‘Let’s really throw ourselves into it,'” Dylan shared.
“There was a part where he had to grab me. He grabbed me so hard that my skin bled.”
Ripple effects across the series
Richard’s death leaves many characters in uncertainty. Conchita becomes a widow who has to raise a child alone, while Jinny faces continued challenges despite the possible imprisonment of her abuser.
As Jakeways explained, “Conchita and Jinny then have to deal with this situation where one of their husbands kills the other one’s husband.”
