Why did RHOP star Wendy Osefo resign from Wesleyan University over fraud allegations?

Arrest causes uproar
Dr. Wendy Osefo, known for her appearance on The Real Housewives of Potomac, and her husband, Eddie Osefo, were arrested last week by Westminster police on 16 counts of fraud.
This news caused a stir among both media and fans, as Wendy has previously been very active in the academic world.
Soon after the arrest, numerous reports surfaced that she had been fired from Wesleyan University, but the truth was otherwise.

Resignation was voluntary
Wendy’s spokesperson clarified that she was neither fired nor removed from her job.
She submitted her resignation letter before it became public.
The university also confirmed, “Wendy Osefo is no longer our employee. She voluntarily resigned.”
Prior Academic Journey
Previously, Wendy left her role as an assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University to focus on RHOP Season 9.
In November 2024, she launched a Sociology of Reality TV course at Wesleyan—the idea for which stemmed from several pages she wrote.
Wesleyan acknowledged her value by awarding her the title of Distinguished Visiting Professor.
Jewelry Theft Case and Controversy
Also, in April of this year, the Osefo family reported their properties stolen during a Jamaica vacation.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office investigation found that over $20,000 worth of items were returned to the place where they were purchased.
Following the incident, Wendy and Eddie stated, “We are safely back home with our family and will present our case in court.”
The Future
Now that the fraud charges are about to be heard, Wendy and her family’s lives are back in the spotlight.
Her voluntary resignation from academia made it clear that she wants to focus on her children and the court process.
It will be interesting to see how she handles this new challenge—and whether this bitterness will further alter her public image.
