How Aimee Lou Wood overcame body dysmorphia through The White Lotus.

The Bikini Scene Terrified Her
Working on ‘The White Lotus‘ wasn’t easy for actress Aimee Lou Wood.
When she found out she would have to film scenes in a bikini, it brought back painful memories from her teenage years when she was constantly self-conscious about her body.
This mental state is called body dysmorphia, where a person constantly obsesses over perceived physical flaws.
The Character Chelsea Became Her Ally
But Aimee found a unique way to cope with this problem.
She told herself, “This isn’t about showing Aimee’s body, but about the character Chelsea.” Her character, Chelsea, was completely confident in her body.
This mindset helped Aimee regain her self-confidence. Acting has always provided her with a safe space to understand her emotions.
She Also Faced Anxiety and ADHD
Aimee’s struggles weren’t limited to body image issues. She also battled bulimia and social anxiety in her teens. This year, she was also diagnosed with ADHD.
She believes that trying to live up to people’s expectations has always caused her distress.
“I Don’t Pretend Anymore”
Today, Aimee has learned to accept herself. She says, “Exhaustion and shame come when you try to hide things.
But when you say, ‘My brain doesn’t work that way,’ there’s freedom.” Her journey teaches us that accepting your truth is the greatest strength.
All seasons of The White Lotus are available on HBO Max. Aimee will next be seen playing Pattie Boyd in a film about The Beatles, scheduled for release in 2028.
