Jolie’s Realtor Denies Madonna Rumor

Just when Hollywood figured they’d uncovered the mystery behind Angelina Jolie‘s mansion, it turned out to be otherwise.

“That’s not true,” said co-listing agent Ernie Carswell, dismissing allegations that Madonna was the buyer.

The latest edition in a tabloid tussle that has raged on for months.

Why you should care: Right now

Jolie’s Los Feliz sale is not just a story about a property changing hands. It is a sign-off on one chapter of Angelina’s life and the possible beginning of another, as she begins making her much-talked-about exit from the country.

A celebrity name attached to the deal keeps tongues wagging, and the denial is a reminder of how quickly something stated online becomes accepted “truth”.

All we know

  • The sale: On September 24, Jolie sold the two-acre DeMille estate for $24.75 million, according to TMZ, which was first to report the news.
  • The price: She put it up for sale at $29.85 million in May, so it sold for about $5.1 million below the asking price. She bought it for $24.5 million in 2017, so it’s fair to say she made a break-even deal after 9 years.
  • Where the Madonna rumor started: A New York Post report said Madonna had taken a private virtual tour of the house in August. Subsequent reports also cited the sale as Madonna’s, according to TMZ, which in turn cited Robb Report as its source.
  • The denial: On October 8, Carswell addressed the rumors on the Real Talk show from The Society Group, stating that it was not Madonna, without giving any details of the buyer.
  • The why it’s not happening: A non-disclosure agreement prevents the team from giving away any details, so the lack of information is what allows the press to “pull something out of the air.”
  • The property: The six-bedroom and 10-bathroom house boasts a 40-foot pool, a guest house studio, a fitness studio and a tea house.

The bigger picture

Well, Madonna was always a favorite suspect in the rumor mill. She is a known regular of the Los Angeles real estate circuit, and a virtual tour that has yet to be confirmed as a purchase is just the kind of tidbit that can fuel speculation. The tour could well have happened, but it doesn’t mean a sale has occurred.

For Jolie, the sale marks out the road map to her own exit strategy, as she has publicly stated her intention to leave Los Angeles.

In a 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she stated she intended to leave the state once her youngest children hit 18.

Since her twins turned 18 in July, the logical question is where she will go, and whether it will be confirmed in the same way her exit from the country was.

The big question

Now, who bought one of Hollywood’s most famous houses, and with a non-disclosure agreement in place, will it ever come out?

Do you think the identity of the new owner will be released, or will it remain one of Los Feliz’s best-kept secrets? Let us know in the comments.
