A Friendship Under Strain

Taylor Swift and Blake Lively were once hailed as one of Hollywood’s best celebrity friendships. This was largely in part to having met years ago on the set of the former’s music video, and then subsequently growing very close as they starred in the film Together.

However, the two stars’ bond faces possible repercussions after Lively took legal action against her It Ends With Us co-star and director Justin Baldoni for sexual harassment, retaliation, and orchestrating a smear campaign against Lively. This has led Swift, too, to become embroiled in the controversy in recent months.

Where It Began

The feud between Lively and Baldoni began on the set of It Ends With Us, which is Lively’s latest film.

She went public with a lawsuit against Baldoni and his production company in December 2024, for sexual harassment and retaliation, claiming that there was a coordinated campaign against her. Baldoni, meanwhile, responded by countersuing her, asking for millions in damages, and stating that the allegations against him were untrue.

Getting Drawn Into the Drama

Although she was not a party to the original court case, Swift finds herself caught in the crossfire. This is in part due to the fact that multiple messages between her and Lively are said to have been revealed in court.

These reportedly include evidence of Lively’s legal team allegedly badgering Swift into speaking out on her behalf, with the texts suggesting that her representatives threatened to make public the messages if she did not cooperate.

It should also be noted that Lively was not supportive of this tactic, and her representatives were quick to deny allegations levelled against Swift by Baldoni’s camp.

When said messages were made public, the text exchanges revealed that the two friends discussed in detail the controversy surrounding It Ends With Us, with Swift giving her opinion of Baldoni as well as Lively giving her own thoughts on issues on set such as disagreements over the film’s marketing and distribution.

A Falling Out Away From the Spotlight

Lively was largely seen in the public eye as distanced from Swift – not seen in public with her at events or on social media.

The two had not been seen publicly together in months, and it was suggested that they barely spoke at all. While this may seem unusual for two women who had been so close, it appears the feud was far from over.

Swift Seems Unbothered By Drama

Despite the negative publicity, however, Swift seems largely unbothered by the whole ordeal. People close to the singer have mentioned that she is preoccupied with bigger things in her life, namely wedding plans with fiancé Travis Kelce.

She has also been said to have no interest in getting dragged down by Baldoni and Lively’s feud, believing it to be a private matter that does not concern her. That said, there is no doubt it has impacted her life, just not in the way the media would like to think.

Settling Legal Woes Behind This

After an especially tumultuous year, Lively and Baldoni finally came to an out-of-court settlement earlier this year. This negated the upcoming trial, in which both parties are said to have presented evidence against each other, which could have involved Swift.

Both released a joint statement regarding the issue, one which stated that they were proud of the film and its message and its stance on domestic violence, a far cry from the drama surrounding it in previous months.

Where Do We Go From Here?

With the litigation between Lively and Baldoni coming to an end, hopefully, the friendship between Swift and Lively can recover. They might have reconciled in the future, or perhaps drifted apart as the years went by.

Either way, it is a shame that their friendship has been so greatly impacted by the feud, as it has been largely unnecessary. Hopefully, the two can move forward from this and continue to lead happy lives and enjoy the other milestones they will achieve in their careers and in their personal lives.
